Extraction from Iran’s Largest Lead-Zinc Mine Begins in Mehriz

 

Yazd, the largest mining and quarrying mine in Iran, and the world's second lead-and-mineral deposit, began today at a ceremony attended by the minister of industry, mining and commerce.

According to the reporter of Mehr, the manager of the lead and zinc mining complex Mehdi Abad Mehriz, this morning at the opening ceremony with the presence of Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, said the mine is located 116 kilometers south-east of Yazd, and its lead and zinc storage is mature It is 160 million tons with 2.3 percent lead and 7.3 percent sulfur.

Amin Safari said: The barite storage of this mine is also over 10 million tons with a specific gravity of 3.6, with 400 thousand tons of barite per year and 200 tons of lead and zinc extracted annually.

He reminded that the contract was signed with the consortium Mobin to commission the mine and prepare it, and it is planned to build 185 million tons in five years and construct a unit of concentrate 800 thousand tons with 35 percent.
