Iran’s Largest Lead-Zinc Mine Operations Launched

 

The operation of the largest lead and zinc mine in Iran will begin tomorrow with the presence of Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade and the chairman of the IMIDRO Executive Committee.

According to the report of the Young Women Journalists Group, the investment contract for the Pb & Zn Zinc and Mehdi Abad factories was concluded in March and the Iranian consortium consisting of the Mobin Mining Company, the Kahnerba Engineering Company, the Iranian Lead and Zinc Corporation, the Maskani Copper Company, the Sarmak Mining Company The Aria South Iranian Company was named among the 13 consortium applicants as the winner of the call.

The contract for the construction of processing plants with a capacity of 800 thousand tons of zinc concentrate and 80 thousand tons of lead and silver concentrates and operations of 180 million tons is scheduled for the first four years, which is the main goals of the project.

The mine, with its discoveries so far, has a reserve of 160 million tons and is the first hope for zinc and lead in Iran to supply feed.

The investment cost of the project is estimated at $ 1.2 billion.

Mehdi Abad mine with 21 million tons of zinc metal is considered the second largest deposit in the world. This mine is located in Mehriz city of Yazd province.
