Mehdiabad Mine to Officially Launch Operations

 

The mining contract and the Mehdi-Abad Pb and Zinc factories were concluded in March 95 and an Iranian consortium consisting of Mobin Mining Co., Kahnerba Engineering Co., Iran's Lead and Zinc Association, Meshkani Coal Company, Searmak Mining Company and Arya Company Southern Iran, among the 13 candidate consortiums known as the winner of the call.

The contract for the construction of processing plants with a capacity of 800 thousand tons of zinc concentrate and 80 thousand tons of lead and silver concentrates and operations of 180 million tons is scheduled for the first four years, which is the main goals of the project. The mine, with its discoveries so far, has a reserve of 160 million tons and is the first hope for zinc and lead in Iran to supply feed.

The investment cost of the project is estimated at $ 1.2 billion.

Mehdi Abad mine with 21 million tons of zinc metal is considered the second largest deposit in the world. This mine is located in Mehriz city of Yazd province.
